KA`U IS THE ORIGIN OF A FOURTH OF THE COFFEES scoring more than 80 points in last week's statewide Hawai'i Coffee Association Cupping Competition. Earning over 80 points gives the growers the honor of being called Specialty Coffees.

START DATE FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR is Wednesday Aug. 4 for all Kaʻū High & Pāhala Elementary School students. A statement from the school says that Hawai'i Department of Education is working hard to safely reopen campuses for the 2021-22 school year.
Families of students who are new, transferring from another school, or enrolling into Kindergarten can mail or drop off enrollment forms and required documents. Important Reminder For Incoming 7th Graders: All new and continuing students must complete the following health requirements prior to attending 7th grade: Physical Examination, Immunizations and TB Clearance.

AMERICAN SAMOA AND HAWAI`I WILL HOLD THEIR FIRST JOINT MARINE SANCTUARY MEETING on Wednesday, July 14. It is virtual and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. Hawaiian Time, which is 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Samoa.

Each council's own representative will present on past, present and future updates of their council. The councils will address questions from members and the public. Public comment will be taken at approximately 11 a.m. SST / 12 p.m. HST. The order of comments will be based on date and time of email notification. Please note, no public comments will be audio or video recorded.
