HUGE WAVES FROM THE SOUTH POUNDED THE COAST Saturday and Sunday. For south-facing shores, National Weather Service extended a High Surf Warning until 6 p.m. on Monday, predicting waves up 18 to 22 feet high, lowering to 15 to 20 feet high on Monday. Offshore, the Loʻihi Seamount experienced its own nearby pounding Saturday evening with a 3.0 magnitude earthquake at 7:24 p.m.
Giant waves at South Point as shown on WeatherBoy.
Regarding the swell, National Weather Service warns: "Expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across portions of beaches, very strong breaking waves, and strong longshore and rip currents.
"Large breaking waves and strong currents may impact harbor entrances and channels causing challenging boat handling. Significant beach run-up, flooding of beaches that typically remain dry, and overwash in vulnerable low- lying coastal roadways can be expected with this swell, especially near times of high tide."
An image of big waves at South Point made the WeatherBoy report.

remained overnight and up the coast to Kona. In Keauhou, waves smashed into condos, breaking windows and flooding them. Several south facing restaurants around the state were also flooded and damaged.

Mauna Loa. Photo from Kap
āpala Ranch
THE KAPĀPALA RANCH TEAM AND FRIENDS have praised fire fighters and volunteers who joined in to stop the wildfire that broke out near a power line on the southeast flank of Mauna Loa in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.
Kapāpala Ranch's facebook said it was, "A brief scare. Mahalo to all the people who let us know there was a fire and to our friends that fly that did fly overs last night and this morning (July 12) to give us a location to confirm it was well in the Park. Also to our Ranch families that rushed to ready equipment in case it blew up. Still, a very long night on standby freezing in the car to keep an eye on it."
